The Bruins are officially putting an end to the Merlot line. After the departure of Shawn Thornton last summer, Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli announced that UFA forwards Daniel Paille and Gregory Campbell will not be re-signed this summer. The three men once formed the Bruins popular fourth line, dubbed "The Merlot Line". Paille, 30, has been a member of the Bruins since 2009, and was a key contributor during the Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup victory and the ’13 Finals appearance (Paille scored four goals and nine points during that latter run, averaging 12:32 TOI per night.) Campbell, 31, has been with the team the last 5 years and won Bruins fans over with his gritty play. Many fans will remember his shift against Pittsburgh in the ’13 Eastern Conference Final — in which he played on a broken leg. Unfortunately for the two, they were extremely ineffective this season. Their possession numbers were bad and they both could not produce much on offence. Campbell scored just six goals in 70 games while Paille had six in 71. This is likely just the beginning as far as changes to the tea are concerned.
