REPORT: The crazy question Rangers asked Crosby before 2005 NHL Draft

File this one under, “what on Earth were they thinking?” Earlier today NJ.com reporter Randy Miller recounted a story from the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, dubbed the Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes, where the New York Rangers put forth a truly bizarre question for the burgeoning superstar.

Miller dug up an interview Crosby had with USA Today in which he stated the Rangers asked him to decide between a long, prosperous life or a short death with the guarantee of glory.

Crosby recounted the interview saying, "They asked, 'If we could give you a pill that you could take that would guarantee that you would be part of a Stanley Cup-winning team and a Olympic gold medal team, but you couldn't live past age 25, would you take that pill?'"

Odd. However, Crosby’s response was better than anything the team’s management could have ever imagined. The superstar, now with 2 Stanley Cups and 2 Olympic gold medals to his credit, replied "I wouldn't take the pill because I plan to win more than one of those." Wow.

It’s hard to argue Sid the Kid’s confidence in that statement. Everything he’s done since the 2005 NHL Entry Draft has proven that the conviction he has in himself is 100% earned.
