For one team, last night marked the continuation of mediocrity. Long considered a non-playoff team, the Oilers were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, extending their league-worst playoff drought to nine seasons. After making the cup finals in 2006, the Oilers took a dive off a tall cliff. The loss dropped Edmonton to 8-18-9 on the road and 13-13-1 against the Eastern Conference. The Oilers are four points ahead of the Buffalo Sabres in the basement of the NHL. Another lost season for this once powerhouse of a franchise.
