A very interesting development.

The story of former NHL enforcer Derek Boogaard has become one at the very forefront of head injury lawsuits against professional sports leagues.

That's why a recent report from Rick Westhead of TSN has caught so many by surprise, Westhead's report suggest their may be new evidence in the case., a case that has been in the courts for two years already.

More from the Westhead report:

A lawyer for the family of deceased NHL player Derek Boogaard is battling to delay a court ruling on dismissing their wrongful-death lawsuit against the NHL until he has a chance to introduce new evidence that he says will further prove that the league is responsible for Boogaard's death.

Boogaard's family filed a lawsuit against the NHL in May 2013, two years after his death from an overdose of painkillers. The lawsuit claims the NHL did not do enough to prevent Boogaard from becoming addicted to prescription medication.

Obviously we don't have any idea what this damning piece of evidence could be, but this is a potentially disastrous sign for the NHL who failed to have the lawsuit dismissed last year.

This case could impact other leagues that oversee contact sports, most notably the NFL.
