It appears that two veteran defenseman may be on the verge of calling an end to their National Hockey League careers.

Both Keith Ballard and Jordan Leopold told the Minnesota's Star Tribune that retirement was an option they were both considering. The scariest part of the report was that Ballard, the man who was left convulsing on the ice last season, sounded like he was more likely to return.

“I’m just trying to get healthy,” Ballard said. “If I make a full recovery from this one, I’ll chalk it up to good luck. But I admit, if I’m hit like this again, I’m a little freaked out about what would happen the next time.”

Thankfully Ballard did admit to the Tribune that he was leaning more towards retirement than a return, I wouldn't want to see the result of another concussion causing hit to Ballard either.

As for Leopold, we all remember the touching story of his daughter begging the Wild to bring him home, and they did, now as a free agent will he really want to leave home again? According to the Tribune he hasn't instructed his agents to find him a deal.
