Well, hold the phone.

It was originally reported from multiple sources that the Detroit Red Wings had decided to take gritty forward Tyler Bertuzzi, who is also a pending unrestricted free agent, off of the trade market as his team went on a tear and put themselves in position to claim a Wild Card postseason spot.

However, it seems as though Detroit could still be considering trading Bertuzzi after all. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is listening to trade offers for Bertuzzi, and is reportedly asking for a 1st round draft pick in return:

"With a number of forwards already dealt well before Friday’s 3pm ET trade deadline, it appears the Detroit Red Wings are once again willing to take trade calls on winger Tyler Bertuzzi.

Bertuzzi, 28, is in the final year of a two-year, $9.5 million contract and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Red Wings exploring the trade market on Bertuzzi and are asking for a first-round draft pick as part of a package in return.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported shortly after, there haven’t been any contract negotiations between the Red Wings and Bertuzzi’s camp on an extension.

The Red Wings could still hold on to Bertuzzi to help their own playoff race, but with a thin forward market, Detroit GM Steve Yzerman could capitalize on a solid return from a team in need of help up front."

The NHL Trade Deadline falls this week on March 3. Will Bertuzzi still be wearing the Winged Wheel by Friday afternoon?
