Report: Unsigned RFA and NHL team reach an impasse
Keystone Press

According to a report from The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline the Columbus Blue Jackets and restricted free-agent Josh Anderson have come to an impasse on a new contract.

The Jackets’ training camp opened up over a week ago, which you think would speed up negotiations, but it appears that both sides have refused to budge so far. So, what could this mean for Anderson’s future? Well, because he’s a restricted free-agent and not an unrestricted free-agent, the Jackets will retain Anderson’s right whether he signs with the team for 2017-18 or not. He’s free to explore options outside the NHL however, including potential offers from the KHL.

In the meantime, the Jackets will either need to up their reported offer of $1.9 million annually to get Anderson back in the fold, or look elsewhere to replace his 17 goals from 2016-17.
