The new coach's challenge already proving it works.
This summer the NHL's board of governors ruled to give the right to a NHL head coach to challenge an official's ruling on the ice when it comes to goaltender interference.
On the very first night of NHL action the new rule has already made it's impact with Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock successfully challenging a Montreal Canadiens goal that would have put the Maple Leafs down 2-1.
After reviewing the play officials determined that Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier was struck in the throat by a Montreal stick prior to the puck going into the net, and therefore ruled no goal.
Here's a look at the play.
