Report: Wings' biggest trade chip revealed to rival clubs
KeyStone Press

The NHL season has just started and already we are closing following the unrestricted free agent class of 2018. Of course, New York Islanders' John Tavares leads the class, which also includes Washington Capitals' John Carlson and Buffalo Sabres' Evander Kane, but in his latest article, Sportsnet's Luke Fox has revealed the Detroit Red Wings' biggest trade chip.

Defenseman Mike Green can log on long minutes on the ice and is a proven top-four blue liner. Back in the day, Green had a 30-goal season and two 70-point seasons. He is just coming off a 14-goal, 36-point campaign as the best defenseman on a struggling Wings roster.

To no one's surprise, GM Ken Holland is having cap problems and it is now known that Detroit’s best trade chip is Green.

The phone will be ringing in Detroit as a Cup contender could offer some picks to help rebuild the Wings' future so they can land a reliable right shot before the deadline.
