According to a report by Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, the 2016 version of the World Cup of Hockey will utilize a new and unique format with both national teams and all-star teams involved in the tournament. Officials from the NHL, NHLPA and IIHF met in Toronto to discuss the World Cup. As of yet no official statement has been made regarding the World Cup, but multiple reports are suggesting it will take place in Toronto in September 2016. Teams from Canada, United States, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Czech Republic. In a new turn, 2 extra teams will be featured, one showcasing the best players from other European nations and a second mixed squad that has yet to be determined. One idea being thrown around is t have the second All-Star squad comprised of younger players who were passed over for their respective national rosters.
