Ryan Strome has been acquired by the Edmonton Oilers in a trade with the New York Islanders in exchange for Jordan Eberle, back in June. And even though the 24-year-old centerman has never played a regular season game with his new organization, he made a very bold statement about how they can perform.
In an interview with Sportsnet, Strome said they are very close to winning a Stanley Cup:
"I feel good and I am looking forward to play for them. They have some great players and I like the way they play, I watched them during the playoffs and they got a great style. I think they're very close... we're very close to win a Stanley Cup."
Even though Edmonton won 47 games and recorded 103 points last season, they lost in the second round of the playoffs against the Anaheim Ducks, in what was a very close series.
Strome played 69 games in Long Island last season, in which he scored 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points. His best season was in 2014-15, when he amassed 50 points in 80 games. He was selected fifth overall in the 2011 NHL draft by the Isles.
