Wow… that story tugs at your heart…
The trade deadline is less than two days ahead, but many transactions have taken place with some stunning fans and folks across the National Hockey League. Quite a few deals occurred on Tuesday, including Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane heading to the New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs trading away Pierre Engvall, and Rasmus Sandin while acquiring Erik Gustafsson and Luke Schenn in separate deals and the Minnesota Wild landing Gustav Nyquist and Marcus Johansson.
The latter ended up shocked like some of the fans on everything that has happened since the start of February, as reported Tarik El-Bashir leaked how brutal the trade deadline could be on players when he saw the deal that involved Johansson.
“The trade deadline is ruthless, man. Like 15 minutes ago, Johansson came off the ice following practice and walked past me into another room to grab a snack. And then, boom.”
This is the fifth time in his career that Johansson has been traded and the second time he has been traded to the Wild. In 2020 he was moved to Minnesota by the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Eric Staal. Johansson came to the Capitals, for a second stint, from the Seattle Kraken at last year’s trade deadline. In 78 games with the Caps this time around, he recorded 16 goals and 34 points. At the time of the trade, Johansson was tied for third on the Caps in goal-scoring this season with 13 tallies. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
The Wild is playing on Thursday against the Canucks in Vancouver where Johansson might be in action with his new team - despite the surprise move on Tuesday.
El-Bashir could have also been talking about Sandin, who left the Maple Leafs’ practice when the trade call was made and that was the end of the his run with Toronto.
Brutal times ahead of the deadline.
