He was acquired in a blockbuster deal just one year ago this month.
It's no secret that the 'JT Miller Era' hasn't gone according to plan in New York.
The New York Rangers acquired veteran forward JT Miller last January in a blockbuster deal with the Vancouver Canucks and subsequently made him team captain. In hindsight now, we can see that it was a desperate move from a desperate team who was desperate to change the culture of their group and the narrative surrounding them.
Last season the Rangers sold off veterans Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba in an effort to move on from their past core and establish a new identity. Miller was supposed to provide this team with new direction, but he has failed in almost every measurable aspect.
Now, there are early reports that the Rangers are looking to move Miller in a trade.
TSN insider Pierre LeBrun reported yesterday that Miller's name is surfacing in trade talks around the NHL but that Miller himself would need to be talked in to waiving his no-trade clause.
" JT Miller... his name's already out there being bandied about, I'm not quite sure why; Miller has no intention of waiving his no move clause and the Rangers have no intention of going to him to ask to waive it," LeBrun reported on TSN's Insider Trading segment.
For what it's worth, Miller is in year three of an eight year deal that pays him $8 million per season. He has a full n0-trade (no-movement) clause for this season and next season and then a 15 team n0-trade list for the final three year of his deal.
However the Rangers see Miller fitting into their plans, he himself holds all the power.
