Reports that Cam Atkinson has turned down a trade to Western Conference team
The veteran forward reportedly flexes his no-trade clause.
Last season was one to forget for Philadelphia Flyers forward Cam Atkinson.
The 35 year old forward managed just 13 goals and 28 points in 70 games with the Flyers last season, making it arguably the least productive season of his NHL career. With a $5.875 million cap hit, that's a tough pill for the Flyers to swallow.
It's no surprise then to hear reports that general manager Daniel Briere has been attempting to trade Atkinson, with TSN insider Darren Dreger reporting that all options are on the table. The Flyers are trying to facilitate a trade for Atkinson, but haven't ruled out the idea of a contract buy-out either. Interestingly enough, Dreger reports that the San Jose Sharks have interest in acquiring Atkinson but that Atkinson will not waive his no-trade clause to head to the struggling Sharks.
From Dreger:
I honestly can't say I blame Atkinson. Sure, San Jose is a fantastic place to live and play hockey, but the Sharks are nowhere near competing for a Stanley Cup. If I'm Atkinson, I'm holding out hope that a contender will look to acquire me as a depth piece for a Stanley Cup run.
Atkinson's seven year, $41 million contract expires in the 2025 offseason.
