Reports that Luke Schenn is re-signing with the Leafs

It's looking like the veteran blueliner will get a significant raise to stick in Toronto.

Veteran defenseman Luke Schenn surprised quite a few fans in Toronto this season after being acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Vancouver Canucks.

After all, Schenn was a high pick of the Leafs (5th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft) who flamed out early in his career and who ultimately ended up becoming a depth blueliner. The thing is... he may not how the skill or the top end talent of a 5th overall selection, but he's a damn good defensive defenseman and that's not nothing.

Schenn played 15 regular season games and 11 playoff games for the Leafs since being acquired at the deadline, putting up just two points along the way. Playing alongside superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes in Vancouver though, Schenn managed three goals and 21 points in 55 games. Not bad for a washing up physical defenseman, eh?

Well, there are now reports that Schenn and the Leafs are likely to renew acquaintances as Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal reports that Schenn is looking to sign a deal with the team with both an increase in pay and in term.

From Dhaliwal:

Honestly, I think the Leaf would be smart to lock up a guy like Schenn. He's a veteran, he wants to be in Toronto and he has something that the team sorely lacks: Grit. Stay tuned.
