Reports that the Canucks have interviewed Mike Babcock

The Vancouver Canucks have seemingly gone through an entire year's worth of drama in just the first three weeks of 2023. 

This team has had more twists and turns this season than a soap opera plot line and it seems like there's just more and more to talk about with this team every passing day. Just yesterday team president Jim Rutherford attempted to quiet some of the chatter around his team when he met with the media, but really he just ended up stoking the fire of frustration and speculation.

In particular, Rutherford refused to comment on the plan for head coach Bruce Boudreau moving forward leaving many to feel like Boudreau is operating on borrowed time. There have been rumors that Boudreau will be replaced by former NHL coach turned TNT broadcaster Rick Tocchet, but Rutherford refused to comment specifically on Tocchet. Rutherford did, however, confirm that he has spoken to potential coach candidates, but did not tip his hand as to who he has spoken with exactly.

On the the Team: Donnie & Dhali show yesterday with Canucks insiders Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal though, Dhaliwal confirmed that the Canucks have NOT spoken to former Jack Adams winner Barry Trotz however. Dhaliwal did say that he believes the Canucks have spoken to a "high profile" coach who has been "out of work for awhile", leading Taylor to speculate that Dhaliwal could be alluded to former Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks head coach Mike Babcock.

Dhaliwal: I'm hearing that there are some pretty high profile coaches that they've talked to other than Tocchet. I think I've got a name that I'm not going to release right now. It's a pretty big name. He's been out of work for awhile.

Taylor: So Barry Trotz?

Dhaliwal: No, it's not Barry Trotz. Barry Trotz has got the same agent as Bruce Boudreau.

Taylor: Is it Mike Babcock?

Dhaliwal: I'm not gonna say. I can't say. You're gonna get me in trouble. It's not Trotz, I told you! Trotz and Boudreau have the same agent. His agent, you think he's doing cartwheels over how they're treating his client? You think he'd put another guy in Vancouver? No it's not Trotz, there's been no contact with Trotz.
