According to a report from former NHLer turned broadcaster Jason York, the Ottawa Senators are interested in acquiring veteran forward Tom Wilson from the Washington Capitals.
From York:
"You know what? Your boy Tom Wilson, I'm hearing the Capitals are interested in making a deal with the Senators, I've heard that. I'd love to see how Tom Wilson can bounce back from that knee surgery. Because can you imagine this? If they were able to make a move with Washington and Tom Wilson was 100%. You've got one line with Brady Tkachuk running, doing what he does out there, hitting and scoring. And then... here comes your second line and you've got Tom Wilson on this line.
- Jason York
It's worth noting that no reputable Capitals insiders have weighed in on this deal just yet, but Senators fans and analysts are having an absolute field day with this rumor today.
For what it's worth, the 29 year old Wilson has just one year left on a six year deal that pays him $5.1 million per season. Call me crazy... but I don't think the Sens are too interested in acquiring guys on expiring contracts right now. I mean... whenever a guy's contract ends he up and leaves, so I can understand the hesitancy from that perspective.
When healthy though, it's hard to deny Wilson's impact. Not only is he a physically imposing force and one of the last true tough guys in the NHL, he can put up points. He managed 13 goals and 22 points in just 33 games with the Capitals last season.
