This road trip just turned the Flyers season completely around!

This may very well be the most important moment of the Philadelphia Flyers entire season. Come April, perhaps the Flyers will look back on the four-game road trip they just completed as the one that turned their second half of the season around. Ray Emery was on fire and the Flyers went 2-0-2. Emery had a 2.25 goals-against average and .921 save percentage during the trip, continually giving the Flyers a chance in periods when they were being peppered with shots. Credit needs to be given to the Flyers’ penalty kill, which was a disaster much of the season, yet successfully killed 24 of 27 opponent power plays (88.8 percent). They also have a nine-game point streak: 6-0-3. The last time the Flyers had a nine-game point streak was March 8 to March 26, 2011 (5-0-4). What is more important is that they gained a lot of ground. When the trip began on Feb. 8 in Washington, the Flyers were 11 points behind the Bruins. After finishing the trip with Sunday's 2-1 win in Buffalo, the Flyers are only five points back. In comparison, at the All-Star break in late January, the Flyers were 12 points behind the Bruins for the wild card. The season appeared pretty much over. Sportsclubstats.com now gives the Flyers a 10 percent chance to make the playoffs. A month ago, it was three percent. By no means are we out of the woods, but there is still hope for a season we thought could not be salvaged. Let's hope this is the turning point we've been waiting for.
