Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner made a victorious return in Sunday’s 3-2 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks. While he may be content with his recovery and return to action, Lehner revealed to team insider Jesse Granger that he forced to make a tough decision.
Lehner is known to be a strong voice for people who don’t have one, to make strong statement on mental health and its importance and on how he believes the NHL should be run, especially when it comes to helping players with personal issues.
However, Lehner has confirmed that he quit social media by deleting his Twitter account, on which he liked to help and support people because of relentless bullying and the amount of energy it took out of him.
“Robin Lehner said it’s unfortunate that he decided to delete his twitter because it’s a tool he’s used to try to help people, but said “it hasn’t been an easy climate for me” and that he thought it was the right move at the moment.”
Lehner seems to prefer to focus on the Golden Knights and the road to the postseason as the team is still battling for a playoff spot. As long as he’s healthy, he’ll serve as the team’s top option in net. Through 39 games, Lehner has a 22-15-1 record with a 2.75 GAA and a .909 save percentage.
Sunday’s contest was his first appearance in nearly a month after being shelved with a lower-body injury. He might have spent more time on social media during his recovery and maybe that was not a good move.
Now that he is away from the screen and the chatter, he can focus on himself and that sounds the healthiest decision for him at this point.
