Rod Brind'Amour goes ballistic on the NHL's officials.
Brind'Amour loses it.
Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour is no stranger to arguing with the National Hockey League's officials, often taking umbrage with some of the calls made against his team, and I have to wonder if this latest instalment will land him in hot water like it has in the past.
On Sunday Brind'Amour and the Hurricanes were taking on the Washington Capitals and through 55 minutes of play this was a hotly contested game. Not only are these 2 teams divisional rivals, but they were actually competition for top spot in the division in this one, despite Carolina currently having 2 games in hand.
Tensions were high and tempers were running hot and that's why when the league's officials called a penalty with just over 4 minutes left in the game, Brind'Amour just lost it.
Here's just a small snippet of Brind'Amour losing his cool on Sunday:
Brind'Amour's tirade continued for what felt like several minutes and when the Capitals managed to find the back of the net, thanks in large part to the ensuing power play, Brind'Amour snapped all over again.
Following the game Brind'Amour did tone it down a little bit, but it was clear he was still unhappy with the way things had been called on the ice.
Normally I will empathize with the coach in this situation because I can understand how frustrating it is to have a bad call go against you, but honestly I'm just not seeing what Brind'Amour sees here. The call that set the Hurricanes head coach off during the game was a slash courtesy of Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho and, when you consider the fact that it actually broke the stick of Washington Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas, there isn't a whole lot the official could do here but raise his arm.
The concern here for Brind'Amour is that he has been handed a heavy fine by the league, $25,000 to be exact, for this type of behavior before. The fact that he toned down his comments post game may have been what saved him this time around.
