Mathieu Darche is quickly winning the hearts and minds of fans with moves like this.
New York Islanders rookie general manager Mathieu Darche has quickly won over the hearts and minds of fans on Long Island, and his latest move seems to have only added to the positive sentiments being directed at Darche.
On Monday, Darche sent out a message to the franchise's season ticket holders, expressing that the work he has done in the short time he has been with the Islanders organization has only been the beginning. Darche vowed that the team would continue to execute on his plan for the future, indicating that the Islanders were not done with their work this offseason just yet.
Perhaps the most endearing part of Darche's message however came at the very beginning. Darche expressed his gratitude for how welcoming the city of Long Island, and the Islanders fan base as a whole, has been towards both himself and the members of his family as well.
Here is Darche's message, unedited and in full:
Dear Islanders fans,
Thank you for welcoming my family and me to Long Island. The New York Islanders organization is first-class, and I am honored to represent the team as the General Manager and Executive Vice President.
At the Draft Party and throughout Development Camp, I saw the incredible passion of this fanbase up close, and I can't wait to see you all at UBS Arena on opening night.
Over the past two months, we've spoken about having a team that plays with pace and is defensively sound. This remains our direction. We executed on our plan for the NHL Draft and Free Agency, and are thrilled with the acquired talent.
We will continue working towards next season, and I assure you that everything we do is in the best interest of the New York Islanders and our ability to deliver you a team this season that competes every night. We have a bright future for seasons to come and it's a privilege to take this journey with you.
Let's Go Islanders.
The Islanders are coming off of an extremely successful draft, one where they walked away with first overall pick Matthew Schaefer as well as forward Viktor Eklund and defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson, both of whom were acquired thanks to the trade of former Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson. Darche's work at the draft was viewed as a major positive for an organization that is desperately looking to turn the corner and become a serious Stanley Cup contender once again.
So far all of the momentum seems to be on Darche's side and, quite frankly, you would be hard pressed to ask for a better start to a general manager's career in the National Hockey League.
