One of the biggest controversies from the Western Conference Final can now finally be put to rest.

During Game 2 of the Western Conference Final, Dallas Stars forward Roope Hintz would leave the game after he was on the receiving end of a slash to the skate courtesy of Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse. Hintz went down hard and had to be helped off the ice, leading many to speculate that Hintz may have embellished the incident in the hopes of getting a call from the officials.

Here's a look at the replay of the incident:

Of course that narrative took a big hit when Game 3 rolled around and Hintz was unable to play as a result of his injuries, although he would eventually for both Games 4 and 5. Even upon his return however Hintz did not look like his usual self on the ice and on Saturday, during the Stars end of season media availability, Hintz would share additional details about what exactly had caused him to miss Game 3.

Speaking with the reporters in attendance, Hintz would confirm that the slash had indeed caused a significant injury to his foot. Although it did not result in a break, Hintz did reveal that his foot had been fractured on the play, something that would certainly explain his inability to play in Game 3.

So it's clear now that Hintz was not embellishing on the play and the good news is that an injury of this nature should be fully healed by the time training camp rolls around for the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season.
