Meet Rory McIlroy, the NHL's newest insider.

Oh... and he also happens to be a four time PGA Tour Major Champion and the former World #1 golfer. Yeah... that guy.

McIlroy, the 35 year old PGA Tour professional from Belfast, made headlines yesterday after he spilled the beans on the Toronto Maple Leafs' offseason plans. McIlroy was reportedly out to dinner with Leafs CEO Keith Pelley, who also happens to be the former CEO of PGA Europe, and was privy to some offseason information.

McIlroy was in Hamilton, Ontario this past week for the Canadian Open where he managed a 4th place finish just three stokes back of tournament winner Robert MacIntyre. McIlroy was asked for his thoughts on the tournament, Canada's place on the PGA Tour and Canada's first love: hockey.

“I think history and tradition and legacy are a really big part of the game of golf. This is one of the oldest championships in the world."

“It’s great that so many people, Golf Canada, RBC have gotten behind this RBC Canadian Open and made it really special. As I said, it’s a pleasure to come up here and play every year and I’m going to keep doing that until they tell me I can’t come over the border.”

Sensing that maybe McIlroy was warming up a bit to Canadian culture, he was asked for his opinion on the local NHL team in Toronto. Can they win a Stanley Cup?
