The Detroit Red Wings may be trying to pull off a monster of a trade.

On Monday morning, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman indicated that the Red Wings have talked to the Vancouver Canucks about the possibility of acquiring Canucks star defenseman Quinn Hughes. While that may sound like it is coming out of left field, according to the insider the two sides have not talked but may actually have the parameters of a deal already laid out.

"I do believe that if Vancouver and Detroit wanted to make a deal, I do believe there is a deal to be made there," revealed Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast.

Friedman did not even so much as hint at what the return for Vancouver could look like in this deal, stating instead that everyone is being extremely tight-lipped about these conversations.

"I can tell you one team that absolutely does not want to talk about it and that's Vancouver," said Friedman. "It's a very, very sensitive thing for them. So all I'll say is this, I think there are talks going on around Hughes and it's difficult to handicap how long it's gonna take or where it's gonna end up."

Adding a player the caliber of Quinn Hughes would be a huge boost to any team in the National Hockey League and that of course includes the Detroit Red Wings. You do have to believe however that the Canucks would want a massive return for a player that is viewed by most as one of the very best defensemen in the entire NHL.

Despite his team sitting in dead last in the NHL's Pacific Division on Monday morning, Hughes is having another solid season for himself with 2 goals and 20 assists for 22 points in just 24 games this season.
