Rumor: Another former Canuck may be headed to Calgary.

The Calgary Flames poaching players from the Vancouver Canucks has become something of a meme this offseason and wouldn't you know it there is now a rumor that suggests the Flames are about to do it again, albeit on a much smaller scale this time around. 

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Nick Kypreos, former Vancouver Canucks forward Josh Leivo is expected to sign with the Calgary Flames. Kypreos has not provided any details regarding what kind of contract Leivo has been offered by the Flames, but I suspect it will be a one year deal at something close to the league's minimum salary. Leivo was on a one year contract last season with the Canucks and that one earned him a salary of $1.5 million, but given the extreme crunch that teams have been put under as a result of last season being shut down, players like Leivo have been forced to take pay cuts.

As I previously stated Leito was coming off a season with the Canucks, his second with that organization, appearing in 36 games and recording 7 goals and 12 assists for 19 points and a plus minus rating of 0 on the season. The previous season he had 49 games with the Canucks in which he put up 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points. Leivo is a former 3rd round (86th overall) draft selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs who selected him in 2011, but he never really got much of a shot with that organization. Both of Leivo's best seasons have no doubt come as a member of the Canucks, for whom he has played in over half of his 169 career NHL games.

This of course comes off the heels of some similar moves from the Calgary Flames earlier in the offseason so no doubt this one is going to cause a few wisecracks betweens fans of the Flames and Canucks. The Flames of course picked up former Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom, arguably Vancouver's best player last season, and former Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev as free agents after the cap-strapped Canucks could not really afford to keep them around.
