Rumor: Big name rumored as possible candidate for the Sabres open GM position.

Well this would certainly be a juicy one.

While it's certainly still only a rumor at this stage, TSN's Shawn Simpson has reported that he believes well-established National Hockey League broadcast personality Pierre McGuire is both interested and a "good fit" for the vacant general manager's position in Buffalo.

While this may initially sound far-fetched to casual fans, McGuire has actually been very close to becoming an NHL GM. In fact in 2014 when the Pittsburgh Penguins fired Ray Shero, they had not one but two interviews with McGuire who at the time was confident he would get the job.

According to Simpson McGuire has a good relationship with Sabres ownership, something that could certainly give him a leg up on the competition.
