The Boston Bruins will reportedly need to offer up a draft pick and retain some salary if they hope to rid themselves of forward Matt Beleskey’s contract in the upcoming NHL Expansion Draft. At least, that’s the theory put forth by Bruins beat reporter Kevin Paul Dupont:

Beleskey has been wildly inconsistent since being signed by the Bruins in the offseason of 2014. While he produced 15 goals and 37 points in his first season with the club, he managed only three goals and eight points in 49 games in 2016-17. His five year, $19 million contract runs through 2019-20 and carries an annual cap hit of $3.8 million, which makes him a prime candidate for expansion selection, trade or buyout. By hook or by crook, the B’s would be wise to get themselves under from under his contract.

Whether that happens or not however, remains to be seen. The NHL Expansion Draft will be conducted Wed, June 21st, but don’t be surprised if you hear more rumblings about Beleskey’s future in Boston in the meantime.
