There are very interesting rumors involving the Vancouver Canucks, although they are the kind of rumors that are likely to lead to disappointment from fans of the Canucks.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman was a guest on Sportsnet's 650 radio in Vancouver on Tuesday, and it was during that segment that he shared a story about not one, but two offer sheets that the Canucks seriously contemplated pulling the trigger on.

The first such offer sheet would have been for a National Hockey League captain, none other than the Dallas Stars' Jamie Benn.

“I’ve talked about this story before, about how the Vancouver team had a big decision years ago, right before the 2012-13 lockout – they considered offer-sheeting Jamie Benn, and I think they were really legitimately thinking about doing it," said Friedman as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. "At the end of the day, they just decided not to because A) they thought Dallas would match, and B) I think they were worried about the repercussions.

While the offer sheet for Benn was the one the Canucks came the closest to pulling the trigger on to Friedman, he received new information that suggested they seriously consider another offer sheet when a player walked into their offices.

“I believe at one point – I think I told that story on the morning show last week – and then somebody reached out to me and said that he’d heard at one point in time that Evander Kane had walked into the Canucks’ office and had tried for an offer sheet. And I think the Canucks considered it, but again, same thing. Not to the same level they considered Benn. They really considered that one. And then at the end of the day they considered not to do it.

At the end of the day the Canucks opted not to pull the trigger on either deal.
