Stunning rumors surround Avalanche GM with his team still in the playoffs.
A bombshell report has just dropped, one that would have you believe that one of the general managers of the 4 teams who still remain in the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs is about to quit on his current team to join a rival team in the National Hockey League.
The news comes from Jonas Sigel of the Toronto Star who on Saturday reported that he has been hearing "lots of buzzing" regarding the future of Colorado Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland. According to Sigel, that buzzing is indicating that MacFarland will leave his current position as general manager of the Avalanche and will instead join the Nashville Predators where he will receive a promotion and be named vice president of hockey operations.
MacFarland's fingerprints are all over the Avalanche organization and there's no question that he has been instrumental in helping shape the organization into the successful franchise it is today. MacFarland was first hired by the Avalanche to serve as an assistant general manager under Joe Sakic and was promoted to the role of general manager in 2022 when Sakic was promoted to president of hockey operations. What this means is that Sakic likely still has final say within the Avalanche organization, and perhaps the chance to have more autonomy in the Predators organization is an appealing prospect for MacFarland who is currently in his first ever job as an NHL general manager.
