There have been rumors circulating about the potential future, or lack of future, for head coach Paul Maurice of the Winnipeg Jets. However based on reports coming out today the rumors couldn't be further off the mark.

Dating back as recently as February of this year Bodog, one of the world's most popular betting sites, had Maurice listed as one of the odds-on favorites to be the next man to lose his job, well ahead of head coach Willie Desjardins who was in fact fired today. This is one time the Las Vegas oddsmakers may have gotten things completely wrong.

According to freelance reporter for the Winnipeg News, Scott Billeck‏ , Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Chevaldayoff has confirmed that the Jets are actually "very early" into the process of working out an extension for Maurice.

These comments to be met by a mixed reaction as there has been a segment of the Jets fan base that has been highly critical of Maurice.
