Rumor: Coveted defenseman expected to be traded this season

Many teams will be in on this one.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun established the likelihood of a trade occuring in Detroit, but he also outlined the likelihood of a deal in New York.

The Islanders had a tough contract negotiation with one of their top young defensemen in Calvin de Haan, eventually settling right before arbitration to a 1-year and $3.3 million deal.

The Islanders are looking to improve up front to keep John Tavares around, and depending on how the season goes, de Haan could be a player on the go come trade deadline.

The durable defenseman had a career year last season putting up 25 points and proving to be a reliable stalwart on the blue line. Teams are always looking for defensemen like him, and if he's available, you can bet teams will be chomping at the bit.
