In his latest 30 Thoughts article, Sportsnet NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray has serious interest in Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett.

When discussing possible trade destination for the crowded defensive corps in Anaheim, Friedman mentioned Calgary and said, “I’ve heard the Ducks like Sam Bennett a lot, but would they really want to do this deal with Calgary?”

Bennett, of course, is a former 4th overall draft choice of the Flames and has shown considerable offensive ability during his two seasons with the Flames, but has struggled to find consistency. After putting up 18 goals and 36 points in his rookie season, Bennett only managed 13 goals and 26 points in 2016-17. The good news? The youngster is just 20 years old, so there’s lots of time yet for him to find his footing.

The real question now, is whether or not he’ll be afforded that opportunity in Calgary?
