There is a very interesting development in Anaheim that warrants being watched very closely.

During a recent segment of Insider Trading, ESPN insider Pierre Lebrun once again touched on the possibility of extremely talented defenseman Cam Fowler potentially being traded.

"The Anaheim Ducks have had preliminary discussion with his camp about his future, began LeBrun."

While the uncertainty of Fowler's future with the team is playing a role here, LeBrun appeared to indicate that the threat of the expansion draft could be what finally pushes the Ducks to make a trade.

"They got a million defenseman, they can't protect them all at the expansion draft."

It seems like there are two obvious choices to be made here. The first will be from Fowler who will have to decide if he wants to sign a contract extension, and the second will come if he refuses to do so. Should Fowler not re-sign before the expansion draft, it seems likely the Ducks would opt to trade him rather than protect him.

"They need a decision, they need to know... are we signing this guy or are we gonna be forced to trade him."
