Rumor: Habs making room for Ovechkin in a blockbuster trade?

How’s this for a juicy offseason trade rumor: Alex Ovechkin to the Montreal Canadiens? Insane? Maybe. Likely? No. But, it’s fun to speculate though and that’s exactly what TSN 690 analyst Andrew Zadarnowski did on social media today when he proposed a blockbuster swap between the Habs and the Caps.

Reaction to Zadarnowski’s “moment of lucid insanity”, as you might imagine, elicited quite a response from fans online. While most dismissed the rumor as nonsense, some don’t think it’s such a crazy idea. The Habs are missing a legitimate goal scorer and some size up front and Ovechkin obviously ticks both of those boxes.

Is this trade as crazy as it seems? One thing’s for sure: never count out Candiens general manager Marc Bergevin, he has a particular flair for the dramatic.
