Rumor: Jets and Bolts working on a deal?
Keystone Press

According to a report from the Winnipeg Sun’s Ken Wiebe, there could be some trade action between the Winnipeg Jets and Tampa Bay Lightning. Weibe reported on Saturday night that Lightning GM Steve Yzerman took in his second consecutive Jets game, leading to speculation that he could be scouting the team for a potential trade.

Check it out:

Interesting. Both the Lightning and the Jets have gotten off to a good start in 2017-18, so we’re not exactly sure what to expect in a potential deal between the two clubs. There were reports that the Jets were shopping backup goalie Michael Hutchinson, but he’s been playing in the AHL, so clearly that’s not who Yzerman has been scouting. Perhaps, Jacob Trouba? The 23-year-old defenseman’s two-year deal expires this offseason and it’s no secret that he’s been a tough negotiator with the Jets before. Remember, Trouba sat out the start of last season as he was embroiled in a contract stand-off with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. Could Chevy be looking to offload Trouba before his contract extension becomes a distraction?

This is all just wild speculation on our part, but if reports continue to link these two teams, expect trade rumors to multiply and intensify.
