A lot of the big trade talk around the National Hockey League has quieted considerably in recent weeks as it seems that everyone is waiting for key restricted free agents, RFAs like Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Patrik Laine of the Winnipeg Jets, and Brayden Point of the Tampa Bay Lightning, to sign before they move forward with their plans.

One team that has been almost shockingly quiet this summer has been the Columbus Blue Jackets, an organization that arguably lost more talent at the end of the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season. The Blue Jackets saw free agents Matt DucheneArtemi PanarinSergei Bobrovsky and Ryan Dzingel all sign elsewhere this summer and by contrast they have done very little to shore up the holes left in their line up by the departure of those aforementioned players. It seems however that they may still have one left card to play.

The Blue Jackets have been very public about the fact that they intend to move forward with backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo as their new stater, a 25 year old netminder who's NHL experience comes entire from playing backup to the aforementioned Bobrovsky. Although they have stated that they have confidence in Korpisalo, it seems like the Blue Jackets have also considered another more experienced option.

On a recent episode of NHL Tonight this week The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta revealed that the Blue Jackets had actually already kicked the tires on a veteran with considerable experience. According to Pagnotta the Jackets and Kings had talks regarding the future of Quick, but obviously as of this writing those talks have gone nowhere.

"Specifically a team like the Columbus Blue Jackets, they say that they are moving ahead with Korpisalo as their main guy to start the season, but I could certainly see them circling back at some point and looking Jonathan Quick," said Pagnotta on the NHL Network.

It would certainly seem like a major risk to give Joonas Korpisalo the starters net right out of the gate, especially given his history. Korpisalo has never played in more than 31 games in a single NHL season, and you have to wonder how important having an experienced goalie to shelter him will be. Jonathan Quick would certainly fit that mold.
