Rumor: Leafs star to get traded despite slump!

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot of young players to get under contract in the coming year, and some veterans and other youngsters might land on the trading block to allow the team to have enough cap space to secure its future. 

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger joined Landsberg in the Morning with guest hosts Matt Cauz and Bruce Arthur on TSN Radio to discuss which of the pending UFA’s would get the Maple Leafs the most on the trade market.

Believe it or not, Dreger believes James van Riemsdyk would get the best value, though he can do some much more on the ice and show off his speed and ability to score. 

"Maybe this year, being a contract year, he will provide that," Dreger said. "I think there would be teams out there that would pay more for JVR based on what we have been saying."

"A coach who thinks he can finally be the missing link to pull out something of that player [will want JVR]. If you can push him up to that next level, that we all think that he can achieve, man you've got a horse. Because of that, maybe he is the obvious trade target as the season unwinds."
