It would be madness on the trading block! It has been reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs could be shopping around to land a top defenseman to ensure a long Stanley Cup run.
But now, more and more, we hear that the player who could be used as trade bait to acquire such a star defender is star young player Mitch Marner.
Now NHL.com’s Dan Rosen is looking into this possibility saying he does not rule out the scenario. However, the Leafs might not be ready to move out one of their good young forwards while they’re still evaluating young blueliners within their system.
The most important question remains how the Leafs will figure out what their salary cap structure will look like with William Nylander, James van Riemsdyk, Leo Komarov, and Tyler Bozak due new contracts this summer and Marner and Auston Matthews due at the end of next season.
Some fans may wonder about Marner’s role now on the Maple Leafs' fourth line.
Time will tell if he is being shopped for real, and which lucky rival team will pull the trigger to acquire him.
