Rumor: Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks working on 2 trades, not 1.

I think it is safe to say that the fan bases belonging to both the San Jose Sharks and the Minnesota Wild are eagerly anticipating the outcome of what has quickly become one of the most universally accepted trade rumors in quite some time. Every insider in the league seems to agree that there is something brewing here between these two teams, but the latest from NHL insider Pierre LeBrun may come as a surprise to many.

For days now the talk has been that veteran Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk has been on the verge of being dealt to the Sharks, with some speculating the Sharks want to make sure Dubnyk is comfortable with the move before pulling the trigger on the deal. More recently however there has been some mild speculation that forward Ryan Donato could also be a part of this trade, but today's update from LeBrun has actually squashed those rumors. According to LeBrun the Sharks are in fact working on bringing both players over from Minnesota, however according to LeBrun this is a matter of 2 seperate trade deals, not 1 larger trade deal.

Additionally LeBrun has also noted that the deal involving Dubnyk is "on the front burner" at the moment with the insider believing that this trade could happen over the next 2 to 3 days. This would line up with comments made by Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo earlier this week, comments in which he also suggested that the trade was but a mere few days away.

So what can the Wild expect back in a trade of this nature? Russo believes that the 31st overall pick in the upcoming 2020 NHL Entry Draft, a pick currently controlled by the San Jose Sharks, could be the prize for Minnesota in a trade involving Dubnyk. Dubnyk is on an expiring contract and is coming off of a pair of down years in Minnesota, so this would be a pretty darn good return if the Wild can manage to pull this one off.

As for a potential return in the Donato trade that is much more difficult to predict. Neither insider provided a comment on what the Wild might be seeking out of that deal.
