In his article for the New York Post earlier this week columnist Larry Brooks blew the lid off a hot trade rumor that had Buffalo Sabres power forward Evander Kane headed to the New York Islanders for a bounty of players including “Josh Ho-Sang or Anthony Beauvillier, perhaps Brock Nelson, maybe Ryan Pulock or Scott Mayfield, and probably one of the two first-rounders (their own plus Calgary’s) they own in the 2018 draft.” Now, another insider TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie is throwing more fuel into the trade rumor fire.

According to Lavoie:

“… the Islanders could look to be very active between now and the trade deadline, and try to acquire players that could really help them in the playoffs. That includes among others Evander Kane, who is having his best season in years with the Sabres - he, who will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.”

Interesting. Kane certainly seems like he could be a fit in the Islander’s top-six group. He plays the right side and could be swapped in and out with Jordan Eberle and Josh Bailey. The question is really, will he be a rental or will he re-sign with the team? All eyes are on Isles captain John Tavares and his future with the franchise. He’s made it clear that he wants to see a commitment to winning before he signs long-term in Brooklyn. Would the acquisition of Kane work towards that goal?
