Rumor: New coach may result in 25-year-old center being traded very soon.

We have a very interesting and unexpected development in Dallas, and given the source this seems extremely credible.

Dallas Stars insider Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News believes that there may be a big trade on the horizon for the organization, and it could be in part due to the hiring of their new head coach in Ken Hitchcock.

According to Heika, the Stars may be contemplating a potential trade involving 25-year-old center Cody Eakin and furthermore that trade may be coming very soon indeed, prior to the National Hockey League's Expansion Draft in fact.

From Heika:

I think they might try to trade Cody Eakin before June 17. Ken Hitchcock looks like he wants to play Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza and Radek Faksa at center, and that would mean Eakin would slide to a wing, where he's not as effective. I think he can be a good second or third center in the NHL, so he has trade value.

Indeed Eakin would carry more value as a bonafide number two or even number three center than an ineffective winger, and if Hitchcock does indeed plan to move forward with the aforementioned names, Eakin would be the odd man out.

There's also the expansion draft to consider, many believe that Eakin would be on Dallas' list of protected players but if he were to be traded prior to that draft it would eliminate the need for such a move. In turn the Stars could protect another one of their forwards like veteran Antoine Roussel for example.

This is one rumor that has a lot of legs.
