Rumor: New team enters the mix for Tavares
Keystone Press

The “will he or won’t he” regarding John Tavares and his commitment, or lack thereof, to the New York Islanders is bound to be a storyline all season in the NHL, up until the moment he either re-signs in Brooklyn or is traded elsewhere to help the team recoup some assets.

So, how likely is he to stay? Not likely, according to NBC and TSN analyst Pierre McGuire who compares Tavares’ situation to the one faced by Tampa Bay Lightning superstar Steven Stamkos two years ago. “I was always very optimistic that Steven would end up back in Tampa… I can’t tell you the same about John…” said McGuire yesterday on a New York radio station. So, where will Tavares end up? McGuire dropped a huge bomb on the hockey world by coughing up a new name to add to the rumor mix: the Detroit Red Wings.

“There’s one team, that’s an original six team that’s desperately in need of a star player: the Detroit Red Wings.”

Wow… could you imagine. The Wings are DESPERATE for a player with Tavares’ game-changing abilities. While they need help throughout their lineup, Tavares would immediately bolster the team’s offense and enable them to focus on shoring up their defensive deficiencies.

What do you think, Wings fans? How good would Tavares look sporting the winged wheel?
