Rumor: NHL head coach is on the verge of being fired.

It sounds like we may have another big coaching change on the horizon.

The Anaheim Ducks are currently experiencing a mid season collapse of epic proportions and it sounds like their head coach, veteran National Hockey League bench boss Randy Carlyle, may be the man who is about to pay the price for that failure. The Ducks entered their Sunday night game against the Edmonton Oilers on a 7 game losing streak and in desperate need of a win. Instead of showing up in an important bounce back game however the Ducks, aside from engaging in some physicality before, during and after the play at various points in the game, look flat and put up what can only be described as a lackluster performance in what should have been a big game for them.

The Ducks were trounced by the Oilers by a score of 4 - 0 and when you consider how much the Oilers themselves have struggled as of late it likely makes for one of the most embarrassing losses of the season for the Ducks organization. During the contest former NHL goaltender and current analyst for the NHL Network Kevin Weekes reported that he has begun to hear rumors of a major shake up coming for the Ducks.

"Should they lose tonight,it will be their 8th straight loss. Hearing there could be a potential Coaching change in the near future," wrote Weekes.

It should come as no surprise I supposed given the fact that losing 8 consecutive games is unacceptable in any season from any team, but I do have to feel a little sorry for Randy Carlyle here. It's no secret that Anaheim's roster is loaded with some big names but it's also no secret that many of those names, notably Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler, appear to be on the down side of their careers and they certainly are not about to get any younger. Management may not have been able to find a way to get a suitable return for their players, nor have they been able to find a way to get younger, and whether or not that should fall on the head coach is certainly debatable.

The Ducks will next face off against arguably the worst team in the league in the Ottawa Senators, and should that came prove to be their ninth straight loss I suspect Weekes' prediction may come to pass.
