Rumor: NHL player safety about to suspend former first round pick.

Rumors of a suspension for a former top pick in the draft.

It sounds like a former first round pick will be facing a suspension from the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety.

While NHL Player safety has not issued nay statement regarding the suspension as of this writing, Canucks insider Dan Murphy of Sportsnet is claiming that veteran Canucks defenseman Eirk Gudbranson will in fact be suspended.

Gudbranson delivered a hard hit to the back of 23-year-old Bruins forward Frank Vatrano on Thursday night, and that hit earned him a 5 minute major penalty, one that led to three consecutive Bruins goals.

While Gudbranson was already harshly punished by the fact that he has to live with the knowledge that he almost certainly cost his team the game, it sounds like additional discipline is on the way,

Update: The NHL has in fact ruled a suspension is necessary.
