It's no secret that the Montreal Canadiens have been looking to move forward Alex Galchenyuk this offseason, and it sounds like despite the National Hockey League currently being in a trade freeze, one rival club has serious interest.

New York Islanders insider Arthur Staple of Newsday has now confirmed that the Islanders have reached out to the Canadiens and their general manager Marc Bergevin about acquiring Galchenyuk, something that fits with reports earlier today suggesting the Islanders are looking to add a top-6 forward.

The Islanders have reportedly been willing to deal defenseman Travis Hamonic, and given that Montreal would like to upgrade on the blue line, this could be a fit for both sides in this deal.

No word from Staple about what pieces could be involved in this deal, but if it does go down expect it to happen either at the NHL Entry Draft, or just prior to it.
