The Detroit Red Wings have finally gotten a monkey off of their backs by winning against the Flyers in Philadelphia last night for the first time in close to 20 years.

They had not won there since 1997, and the game went into a shootout before head coach Jeff Blashill's troops came out victorious thanks to Andreas Athanasiou's goal.

But the Red Wings are making headlines for different reasons today, as they are caught in the midst of trade rumors revolving around who many are calling the emerging number one goaltender Jimmy Howard.

Despite his excellent stats thus far into the season (3-2, 1.26 GAA, .958 SV%), it appears that the Red Wings organization have no interest in potentially losing him to the Las Vegas NHL Expansion Draft next summer, according to mynhltraderumors.com.

There is no word on what he could potentially fetch as a return, but it is believed that his destinations could be either the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Calgary Flames.

Howard knows Leafs head coach Mike Babcock quite well from his coaching days with Detroit, and a reunion could be in the works.

More on this soon.
