Before announcing his retirement yesterday morning, former Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan was reportedly contacted by several NHL teams including the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames about signing a new deal. While there’s no telling how close the teams were to signing the 40-year-old veteran, he did reportedly receive an offer, which he declined, from one club.
Which leads us to the question, do you think Doan would have been a good fit in Edmonton? While he’s clearly not the player he once was, could Doan’s veteran leadership have been a benefit to the club in a pivotal 2017-18 campaign? We’ll never know now that he has announced his retirement, but it’s a fun thought experiment nonetheless.
Let us know your thoughts, would you have liked to have seen the Halkirk native lace ‘em up for one more season in the NHL, but this time with the Oilers?
