Oilers looking to make a trade to help their captain.
The Edmonton Oilers have come out to a very disappointing start to the regular season, especially considering that many viewed the team as a potential Cup contender coming into this season.
Now it seems that the Oilers struggles have management working overtime as they try to find players with more speed than those currently on their roster, players they hope will be able to keep pace with the speed of captain Connor McDavid.
“I think they’re too slow. I really do," said Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. " A couple of teams that played them in the preseason – it was funny. One guy was actually laughing as he said it to me. ‘Take McDavid out,’ and he realized how stupid it was to say that, ‘and they’re really, really slow.’ And we’re seeing that right now. McDavid is the fastest player in the league, but after that they’re really slow.
“I think that they are going to look for speed. I think they are going to try to find some players around the league that have some hop to them, because they need guys fast enough to play with McDavid.”

Friedman has not touched on what players or even what teams the Oilers and general manager Peter Chiarelli may currently be looking at to fill this need, and given that the only factor they are searching for is speed, it's hard to narrow it down any further.
It's important to note that one of Edmonton's most talented players, Leon Draisaitl, is currently sidelined with an injury, and how far the Oilers think he is from returning may impact the type of player they are looking for in a trade.
