Rumor: P.K. Subban has played his last game in Montreal.

There was a shocking rumor that hit the National Hockey League this morning when TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie revealed that he would be shocked if the Montreal Canadiens did not discuss the possibility of trading star defenseman P.K. Subban before his no-trade clause kicks in. Now that rumor seems hardly shocking, and it sounds more like McKenzie broke the lid off a poorly kept secret with dozens of pundits now adding their two cents.

The message is clear, many believe P.K. Subban has played his final game as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.

Brian Wilde of CTV was a guest on TSN 690 Radio today and he echoed the comments from McKenzie, in fact Wilde went so far as to state “There's a 50/50 chance P.K. Subban will be traded before July 1st.”

So that tells us the what of the rumor, but it might be the why that's the most interesting part of this story, and one former player claims he has the answer.

Former NHL player Geroges Laraques, who is a frequent radio personality in Quebec, has revealed that at least according to him, P.K. Subban is absolutely reviled and even despised by his teammates, and is a real source of problems in that locker room. Laraque believes the Canadiens don't have a choice, Subban must be traded, and speaks of Subban being a lone wolf in the Canadiens locker room, hated by the other players for what they view as selfishness.
