Rumor: Penguins and Capitals caught in bidding war over the same player
Could this re-ignite the classics Pens vs Caps rivalry?
It appears that we may have a bidding war for Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander on the trade market.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported on his most recent 32 Thoughts podcast that Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas has serious interest in Hoglander. Friedman, however, also reports that there will be several teams interested in Hoglander.
From Friedman:
"I think there are some teams that are very interested, I think Pittsburgh would be one of those teams, he's signed and Pittsburgh makes a lot of sense, you look at the players that Pittsburgh is collecting, Hoglander fits it."

So... who else is in the running?
NHL insider Kevin Weekes reports that the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Washington Capitals are also in the mix for Hoglander via trade.
Personally, I'd love to see the Penguins and the Capitals go toe to toe on trade offers. Given the Penguins' fortunes this season, it doesn't appear that the on-ice Caps vs Pens rivalry is coming back anytime soon. Why not turn this rivalry over to the front office?
